Cakes by Veekay is a homemade baking service based in Harare, that delivers cakes, cupcakes, madeira loaves and a host of desserts. Currently available only on weekends, they deliver cakes ranging from the basic flavours like chocolate, to more complicated offerings like black forest and red velvet among others. Their range of artistic ability with cakes is just as wide as the range of flavours.

Carrot cake rating: 4/5
The carrot cake was rich and luxurious on the palate with such a delicious taste. It was incredibly moist with just a nuance of zing to it and a lot of sweetness. It might overwhelm a more savoury palate but for me and my sweet tooth it was unbelievably perfect. The cake layers were just right in density and the generous cream cheese frosting in between them made every bite just feel so lush.

It might sound a bit dramatic but this was hands down the best madeira loaf I’ve ever had in my life. To have chocolate and vanilla in such a union, were the flavours are not distinct of each other but they come together as one to stimulate the tastebuds beyond belief. It was like little angels flapping their wings on my tongue. I couldn’t get enough of it and I instantly regretted not getting two.
